Sweet Spot started with two sisters…

We grew up in Reston, Virginia and have such nostalgic memories from our childhood.  We always talked about owning a business together and after years of seeking that “wow” destination that captures childhood nostalgia, we were left scratching our heads.  Slightly obsessed with the movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the idea of a candy shop formed, but not just any candy shop…

The more we talked about the idea, the more exciting it became.

Our shop would be interactive and serve as a vehicle for all our ideas to bring people together.  We would try to be more than just a retail store and become an exciting destination.  In addition to selecting delicious and unique products that our guests would want to indulge in, we would create what we call “blips of happiness”, those moments when you’re overwhelmed with the feeling that life is good, by incorporating special events and offering opportunities for families and friends to gather.  Filled with excitement, warmth, color, and sweet treats, Sweet Spot could be that destination.

So we refined our original ideas, and created Sweet Spot.

We were lucky to work with really talented people to help with our graphics, colors, design, and layout.  We wanted a clean, stylish “spot” that was still warm, vibrant, and reminiscent of a neighborhood shop.  We filled our jars with colorful candy and delicious chocolates, stocked our fridge with retro soda bottles, searched for candy you ate as a kid and unique, artisan chocolate pieces and bars, planned parties and events, and opened our doors on November 20th, 2010.  Today we love seeing bikes and skateboards parked outside our front door, families playing a game of CandyLand at our center table, birthdays being celebrated, brides choosing their candy wedding favors, kids being rewarded for great report cards, couples on their first date, and grandparents and grandkids sharing a day together.  We’re thrilled to be a part of it all!
